Experience

As a registered patent attorney, Ms. Ngai has prepared utility and design patent applications in various arts. She has counseled clients in obtaining domestic patent protection and conducted patent novelty searches. Ms. Ngai’s practice also includes litigation involving intellectual property rights and business transactions. Ms. Ngai is fluent in Cantonese and proficient in Mandarin.

While in law school, Ms. Ngai was active with the Law Review as an Associate Editor and Writer, and was a participant in the Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition. During her time in law school, Ms. Ngai worked as a judicial extern in the District Court of the Northern District of California for Chief Magistrate Judge James Larson. As an extern, she researched case law and wrote bench memorandum for discovery motions to produce documents, compel testimony and answers to interrogatories. Ms. Ngai also participated in and observed settlement conferences with Judge Larson and Magistrate Judge Edward Chen regarding intellectual property infringement suits.

Prior to law school, Ms. Ngai served as a research associate for Pfizer, Inc. where she conducted anti-cancer research and developed in vivo efficacy models using fluorescent imaging technology. Ms. Ngai has also conducted research in embryonic stem cell technology and developed transgenic knockout models at the University of California San Francisco and Deltagen, Inc.. In her capacity as a research associate, Ms. Ngai also drafted and edited her experimental findings for scientific publication and presentation, and was the co-author of several publications.
